Golf Tournament
Don't forget to sign up for the 2016 PFI Golf Tournament! Taking place the morning of Sunday, July 24, the tournament will be played on the legendary Omni Grove Park Inn golf course. The Donald Ross-designed course has been played by PGA stars Bobby Jones, Ben Hogan and Jack Nicklaus, and features views of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

 Stan Elliot, Pacific Coast Pellets, Shelton, WA. Stan has spent the past 14 years in the wood pellet business. Stan worked for Bear Mountain Forest Products prior to taking his current position in 2011. During his time with Bear Mountain, Stan introduced Bear Mountain's very successful line of BBQ pellets. Stan has enjoyed participating and speaking at pellet conferences in the US, Sweden, Austria and Italy. Stan is a graduate of the University of Oregon, and he lives with his wife Lisa in Tacoma, WA.

Pellet Fuels and Equipment Auction Scheduled for July 20
Okanaga Pellet Company, Inc., located in West Kelowna, British Columbia, is holding a live auction on July 20 to liquidate its assets. More than 100 items - including vehicles, equipment and even office supplies - will be auctioned to the highest bidder. Participants may join on-site or online.

Host an Event for Bioenergy Day 2016, Taking Place on October 19
October 19, 2016, marks the Fourth Annual Bioenergy Day! Many pellet fuels manufacturers are planning facility tours and other events to emphasize the many economic and environmental benefits of bioenergy to elected officials, customers, the media and other stakeholders.
We urge anyone interested in building ties to their communities to consider hosting a Bioenergy Day event, either on your own or jointly with other bioenergy businesses or supporters in your region. There are many resources available to help you plan, including a Participation Guide on theBioenergy Day website. Previous participants are also willing to share best practices, lessons learned, and other tips to ensure a smooth and successful event.

Lunenburg Wood Pellet Proposal Gets State Backing

Plans for a wood pellet manufacturing plant in Northern Vermont just received a little financial help.
Governor Peter Shumlin announced that $550,000 dollars has been awarded to the town of Lunenberg which will lend the money to Kingdom Pellets.
They plan on transforming the paper mill in Gilman into a wood pellet manufacturing plant and creating 21 jobs in the Northeast Kingdom. The money comes from a state community development grant.

Woodland Animals Largely Unaffected By Pellet Harvesting

New research from N.C. State suggests harvesting wood debris after logging doesn't have a major impact on small animal populations.
Wood pellets made from scraps left behind after clear-cutting are increasingly in demand as biomass, a renewable energy source to fuel power plants in Europe and parts of the United States.
But until recently, little was known about how wood debris harvesting impacts woodland animals. N.C. State forestry professor Christopher Moorman led a four-year study examining how birds, toads and other species use debris at logging sites throughout the South. He concluded the biomass harvest has little impact.

OSU Cascades Eyes Biomass for a 'Net Zero Energy' Campus

A grant from the U.S Department of Agriculture could enable planners at Oregon State University-Cascades to move closer to achieving net zero energy usage across the future campus by studying the potential of integrating a woody biomass thermal energy system and campus-wide biomass district energy to provide heat to campus buildings.
The $193,910 grant was awarded by the USDA Forest Service's Wood Innovations grant program and will be used to determine the technology and space requirements of a campus-scale biomass thermal energy system.
