National Bioenergy Day Video Features Pellet Plant

The Third Annual National Bioenergy Day, occurring on Wed., October 21, is quickly approaching. This year’s National Bioenergy Day video was released this week, featuring Northeast Pellets in Ashland, Maine. The video highlights the role of bioenergy in the forest products industry and economy of Northern Maine.

National Bioenergy Day continues to grow, with more than 60 organizations participating, representing power, pellets and biofuels as well as universities and state governments. The U.S. Forest Service, along with the Department of Energy’s Bioenergy Technologies Office, provides support for the annual day, along with a range of additional companies and organizations, including the Pellet Fuels Institute.

Events will be held across the country to highlight the use of bioenergy. Consider hosting a tour at your facility to educate those in your community about the benefits of pellets. Please visit www.bioenergyday.com to register your National Bioenergy Day event and to view the video!

Energy Department Offers $6 Million for Native American Clean Energy

The Energy Department announced on September 2 a $6 million grant opportunity to establish clean energy and energy efficiency projects on tribal lands. The Department's Office of Indian Energy is soliciting applications from Indian tribes (including Alaska Native regional corporations, village corporations, tribal consortia, and tribal organizations) and Tribal Energy Resource Development Organizations to install facility-scale clean energy and energy efficiency projects and community-scale clean energy projects on Indian lands.

Tribal lands comprise nearly 2% of U.S. land, but contain about 5% of all the country’s renewable energy resources. With more than 9 million megawatts of potential renewable energy capacity on tribal lands, these tribal communities are well positioned to capitalize on their energy resources for local economic growth. Currently, few tribes own and operate the energy infrastructure that they depend upon. Deploying more clean energy on tribal lands will also make the tribal energy infrastructure more resilient.
