Job Overview: The Pellet Fuels Institute Executive Director Reports to the PFI Board of Directors to fulfill the association’s mission. The ED is the key staff member and responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions. The ED oversees PFI’s fiscal management and oversees the PFI staff, anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position. The ED will also work with the PFI Board of Directors, Committees and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through membership, programs, strategic planning and community outreach. The ED is expected to have good written and oral communication skills as well as strong public speaking ability. Other specific job duties follow.

Coordinate with PFI’s Management Company

• Working with the PFI office (SBI) with membership services, marketing and communications, events, and finance

Event Management

• Oversee the planning, program, and support of the annual conference. In conjunction with the SBI Meeting Planner support the Conference Committee. Follow up with sponsor prospects individually, including USDA
• Support the annual Breakfast and Biomass event working with the speakers, venue, and HPBA
• Help identify sponsors for event
• Work with Conference Committee in the development of the program

Marketing and Communications

• Working with the PFI Media Consultant, oversee content development, press releases, and coordinating with volunteer leadership
• Field press and industry inquiries, referring to volunteers or other members as appropriate
• Working with PFI office staff, forward industry relevant news and other content for posting to the PFI website
• Enforce PFI logo policies, coordinating with the attorney as needed

Board of Directors

• Provide industry-specific strategic guidance to the Board of Directors
• Working with the Chairman and SBI draft meeting agendas
• Assist Chairman in preparing messages to the membership
• Support Board in honoring retiring Board members
• Working with the Chairman and SBI draft meeting agendas

Financial

• Working with the PFI Treasurer and SBI draft annual budgets for review and approval

Committee Activities

• Participate on the Membership, Conference, Government Affairs, Domestic and Bulk Fuel, and Promotions and Communication committees or other as defined by the PFI Board of Directors

Standards Program

• Serve as primary staff contact for PFI Standards Program
• Work with the PFI Media Consultant in reaching out to new Program Participants
• Answer inquiries from general public, members, and others interested in the program
• Serve as program liaison to EPA and American Lumber Standards Committee

Government Affairs

• Assist PFI Lobbyist with government affairs initiatives as needed
• Attend meetings, congressional hearings and other events as needed

Other

• Coordinate PFI’s participation at industry trade shows and conferences
• Represent PFI at meetings and other events as needed

Website

• Work with PFI Promotions Committee and PFI marketing and communication to update website and develop original content as necessary

Job Qualifications
PFI prefers experience in the biomass industry or related field but PFI will review other types of industry related experience for this position. A minimum of 5 years of industry experience and a Bachelor’s degree is required. PFI will consider less than full-time for the right candidate.
