Bioenergy Day 2017 - Save the Date for October 18

Wednesday, October 18, marks the day for the Fifth Annual Bioenergy Day. With more than four months to go, there's plenty of time to decide how your organization will recognize the day, sharing with audiences old and new the many benefits of bioenergy.

This year, we are highlighting the economic benefits of bioenergy. The presence of bioenergy in a community creates jobs, enhances revenue and forest products markets, and reduces waste. Our video on bioenergy, forest products and forestry in Northwestern Montana will illustrate how manufacturers convert leftover fuels into energy.

There are many ways to contribute to Bioenergy Day 2017. We've uploaded our Participation Guide on the site to help you brainstorm the ways to mark Bioenergy Day, with some best practices and sample materials. You can also look around our website, www.bioenergyday.org, to see how other groups have approached Bioenergy Day.

Contact Carrie Annand with any questions on Bioenergy Day 2017 or to register your organization's event.

BTU Act Reintroduced, Biomass Thermal, Power Could Benefit
Biomass Magazine

Several legislators have again introduced an act that would level the playing field for biomass heating technologies-and potentially, some biomass power facilities.

The Biomass Thermal Utilization Act of 2017 has been introduced to the House by Sens Angus King, I-Maine, Susan Collins, R-Maine, Rep. Peter Welch, D-Vermont, and Mike Kelly, R-Pennsylvania.

First introduced in 2013, the bill would amend the federal tax code to incentivize biomass energy through tax credits for capital costs incurred in residential and commercial installations, tax incentives that already exist for other forms of renewable energy.

Vermont Sugar Makers Incentivized to Boil with Local Wood Pellets
Vermont Biz

The Clean Energy Development Fund (CEDF) at the Public Service Department announced today the availability of an incentive program for Vermont's sugar makers to install pellet fueled evaporators. The program will offer grants up to $20,000 for the installation of evaporators that use bulk wood pellets or wood chips as the fuel. The cash grants will be available to all Vermont based sugar makers and will be based on the size of the evaporators installed.

"Vermont has a rich history of using wood in our sugar houses, and this incentive builds on that history providing our larger sugar makers a way to still use wood but with the ease of an automatic system" said Governor Phil Scott. "This is an example of my Administration continuing to focus on ways that we can build our local economy while also increasing the use of clean energy."

Summer Guide to Grillin'
Billings Gazette

Nothing is more American than a backyard barbecue on the Fourth of July.

Side dishes, a cooler full of cold beverages and a platter of hot dogs, burgers or steak will get the party going.

If you envision embarrassing yourself with guests by firing up that rickety grill caked with evidence of many past meals, it's time to shop for a replacement.

The best grill is one that fits the needs of your guests and yourself, said Jessica Miller, lawn and garden manager at King's Ace Hardware in Billings.
